Retrospect

It's not the physical pain that imprints the memory.  It's the humiliation that etches the mind.  The hot tears dry fast.  But the rage, the fury and the feeling of helplessness leave a permanent impression. Sometimes we learn to let go and and bury it deep within. Other times, it grows and grows until we gain enough strength to fight back and take revenge.  Still there are times  when the scars that got buried  under the dust of time grow into swirling vines, blooming with flowers of forgiveness and pride, announcing victory over the past shortcomings and weaknesses.
